Coleman bishop

James Coleman Bishop, a New Orleans based artist originally from Virginia, started his glass journey while pursuing a degree is psychology from Tulane University. What started as a class to fulfill a requirement soon became a true passion that lead him from student to apprentice and teaching artist at Tulane Glass and YAYA Arts Center. He continues to further his education in New Orleans under mentors Gene Koss, Jim Vella, and Christian Stock.

Coleman’s work is a visual display of his glass journey, exploring the history of glass-working through various techniques. His appreciation for glass and its fragility influences his contrasting aesthetic, incorporating pieces that range from solid/blown sculpture and vessels to fuzzed glass and wood/steel casted glass. He draws inspiration from the masters of various mediums and their dedication to their craft or art form.
