DETAILS:

Since the organization’s founding in 1988, YAYA has provided free after school visual arts and entrepreneurship training to New Orleans area youth through its core program — The YAYA Guild. YAYA Artists in the Guild learn the fundamentals of painting, glassmaking, ceramics, and mixed media arts. They acquire entrepreneurial skills in professional development seminars taught by leaders in their respective fields such as marketing, resume writing, and portfolio building. YAYA Artists practice what they learn through hands-on experiences as they create works for sale at the Gore Family Fund Gallery and various Art Markets.

In addition to art and entrepreneurial training, the “YAYAs” also enjoy a variety of benefits. Every YAYA Artist upon entering the program is provided with a Vade Mecum (artist binder). The YAYAs create a set of goals for their art, academics, and other personal pursuits. The Vade Mecum is one of many tools provided to YAYA Artists so they stay on track and achieve their aspirations. YAYAs who excel are provided with no-cost travel opportunities in the Paint the World
program, arts business training, commissions for public art, interior design installations, and large private commissions. A tenet of YAYA’s studio is to create professional quality artwork for sale or commission. Contact us today to involve YAYA in your next commission.

Youth may apply to enter the YAYA Guild between the ages of 13-16 and may remain in the program until they reach 25 years of age. Student recruitment takes place at the end of each Fall, Spring, and Summer.
