She is based in New Orleans and produces works primarily in glassblowing and ceramics, though she also explores mediums such as painting, drawing, and mixed media. Emma's works reflect her experience as a female Indonesian-American teenager raised in New Orleans. Through her art, Emma likes to showcase her interest in nature and experiment with diverse colors and textures. She hopes that viewers find curiosity and optimism in her pieces. Through YAYA, Emma has received opportunities to study glassblowing in Venice, Italy (2022) and attend the International Youth Glass Conference in Seattle, Washington (2023). Emma's work can be found and purchased through yayainc.org, and she can be contacted at emma.gele@gmail.com
Emma enjoys creating functional pieces that reflect her intention of evoking curiosity and optimism through new forms, colors, and textures. Rather than using her chosen mediums to reflect specific themes, Emma's work often emphasizes the fluidity and beauty of the materials themselves, whether they are glass or ceramics.
