Raymond Rollins
I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Which is also where my passion for art began. I’m
a self-taught visual artist. I’ve been drawing, sketching, working with digital illustrations
and painting ever since I can remember. I’ve also began working with sculpture, and
animation. I’ve found each new experience to have it’s own challenges, which has forced
me to come up with unique ways of developing my creativity. I have always used art
throughout my life, art has gotten me through times of boredom, depression, and
loneliness. When I was younger, my mother couldn’t afford to buy my brother and I the
action figures we wanted. So, I’d draw our favorite characters onto cardboard from old
cereal boxes. Then we’d cut them out and play with them as if they were the actual
characters brought from the store. Art has been my constant joy, release, voice, and
friend that will never leave. Over the years, my art has changed. While in high school, I
was a part of a program called YA/YA (Young Aspirations/Young Artists) it was there,
that I was able to learn that my art work can be viewed and appreciated by others. While
in YA/YA, I traveled, participated in many art shows, sold art, and worked in turning my
art work into actual functional pieces. I made tables, chairs, screens, and silk screen
designs while there. My art has always been tied to and representative of emotions.
Emotions and how to positively express them, are what I want to show others.
